On July 9, 2014, Julian Castro was confirmed by the Senate to be the next Secretary for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The final recorded vote was 71 to 26.
Julian Castro, 39, served as the Mayor of San Antonio, Texas since 2009. During his tenure, he initiated several housing and urban revitalization efforts. Castro graduated from Stanford University in 1996 with a bachelors degree in political science and communications, and in 2000, he graduated from Harvard Law School. Before becoming mayor, he served on the San Antonio City Council through 2005 and then operated his own law firm. Castros twin brother, Joaquin Castro (D-TX), was elected to the House of Representatives in 2012.
Former HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan was nominated by President Obama to serves as the Director for the Office of Management and Budget. In this roll, Donovan will be responsible for compiling the Administrations budget requests and for reviewing the quality of agency programs and policies. The full Senate is set to begin consideration of this nomination today.
