The mission of the Midwest Affordable Housing Management Association is to advocate and educate on behalf of our members to increase the quality and supply of affordable housing. We are committeed to providing our members with current legislative awareness and ongoing comprehensive educational opportunities.

AHMA Drug Free Kid Program
The Midwest Affordable Housing Management Association is a proud sponsor of a poster/calendar contest. Every year, youngsters and communities show their enthusiasm in maintaining a positive, drug-free life through posters with strong messages for other kids. This is a “feel good about yourself” program, that allows residents and management companies to work together to create a drug free community.
Community of Quality
This program is designed to create, maintain and honor quality affordable housing communities. Midwest Affordable Housing’s Community of Quality standards combine Professional Management, Maintenance Excellence and Access to Community Services to produce anti-drug and anti-crime communities. The Community of Quality affirms that affordable housing provides a desirable place to live, with a strong involvement by residents in the activities and management of the community.
Annually the Association awards a community, managed or owned by a member company, for creating and maintaining a community that offers a higher quality of living for the residents, thus bettering the lives of the residents and the community at large.
Fair Housing Program
The Midwest Affordable Housing Management Association is a leader in the progressive promotion of fair housing for all community members. By providing fair housing guidebooks and professional training, we have been selected nationally by HUD as a member of the National Occupancy Task Force.
The Executive Office of the Midwest Affordable Housing Management Association is an up-to-date resource center for legislative information concerning affordable housing. As more responsibility for the production and management of affordable housing is being delegated to the States, the Association is becoming increasing important as an up to the minute source of regulatory and legislative information.
NAHP Certification Program
Property managers certified as National Affordable Housing Professionals (NAHP) are capable of managing a quality property in an unpredictable environment. This takes dedication to continually improve and update management skills. The program is a stringent, forward thinking plan for our professionals and executives committed to constant improvement in management skills.
We know the value of education and therefore, believe in quality training for housing assistance management. Seminar subjects include: Fair Housing, HUD, Regulatory Compliance, Financial Accounting, and Basic Apartment Management. The Association provides seminars in a variety of timely topics throughout the year and an extensive educational offering at our three day annual meeting.
Tax Credit Training
Because of the growing need for training, an information that is unique to properties financed by low income tax credits, MAHMA, has developed specialized training seminars for LIHTC managers. Additionally MAHMA is a source for regulatory changes to LIHTC program.
Specialist in Housing Credit Management
The Specialist in Housing Credit Management™ (SHCM™) certification has been developed by the National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA) especially for management professionals involved with properties developed and operated under the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program. The SHCM is designed by management professionals for management professionals to ensure they have attained the knowledge, experience and competence required to excel in the housing credit property management industry.
As experienced affordable housing management professionals know, the LIHTC program is the primary production tool for creating new affordable housing properties across every state in the country, and it is also the most important tool for rehabilitating and preserving the nation’s existing stock of aging affordable housing. To maximize their careers, management professionals in the affordable housing industry must be able to demonstrate their experience and expertise in mastering the complex requirements of the LIHTC program.
