A new NAHMAnalysis which reviews several policy recommendations to improve the Affirmative Fair Housing Marketing Plan (AFHMP) process is now available at NAHMA.org. These recommendations are based on the responses from a survey that NAHMA sent to members of our Fair Housing Committee; this specific survey and members responses are included as part of this NAHMAnalysis.
An ongoing area of concern is inconsistent guidance provided to O/As about the required content for their AFHMPs. Inconsistencies in the approval process across the different HUD Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) offices can create significant challenges in effectively managing an affordable housing portfolio. On October 2, 2014, NAHMA staff and leaders of our Fair Housing Committee met with FHEO General DAS Bryan Greene and other senior FHEO officials to discuss these challenges and our survey and recommendations for resolving the AFHMP inconsistencies.
